The Scallywags is Australia’s hottest new act aimed at the younger generation.
The Scallywags is the creation of Tasmanian playwright / entertainer Daryl Peebles and features three great young performers.
ExitLeft’s Ian Williams is responsible for the production, direction and musical direction. Ian’s forte in teaching children, together with his excellent musical skills, enabled him to take Daryl’s modest tunes and turn them into songs that will really resonate with the audience.
Choreographer Emma Wolfe has added her high-energy dance routines to the mix.
Each show is a colourful, fun-filled adventure written to reinforce good behaviour for children from the age of about two upwards and deals with issues that are high on a little person’s agenda – issues like the challenges of getting dressed all by yourself and looking after your pets. On the beach has the Scallywag family holidaying at a sea-side resort and is a great opportunity to reinforce water safety messages with any young audience.
The on-stage performers are three wonderful young Tasmanians who are not only seasoned performers for their relatively young age, but also have a great rapport with the target age group.
The Scallywags prefer to work on a raised platform at least 2.5 x 4 metres but are able to work on any flat surface. The backcloth is the Scallywags logo which is capable of being hung behind the platform. Ideally, the performers should have room to move behind the backcloth and platform.
A sound-reinforcement system with three head-set radio microphones and a reliable cd /mp3 player is required for the production.
The show runs approximately 35 - 40 minutes. The cast members will mingle with the children in the audience (in character) after the performance.
The cost of mounting The Scallywags for a one-off show is $1200 plus travel and accommodation costs. A suitable sound system can be hired at an additional cost if the event organisers have not made provision. Longer commitments or additional shows are negotiable.
